The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates tht 1.4 million TBI's annually occur among civilians.
What We Are All About...
OUR MISSION STATEMENT:
CONSUMER & COMMUNITY:
Of these, TBI results in 50,000 deaths and leaves 80,000 to 90,000 citizens with a long-term or permanent disability.
It was estimated that medical costs and loss of wages due to TBI amounted to over $60 billion in te United States during 2000.
The Number of Americans living with Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI):
Approximately 5.3 Million People!
The Causes by Percentage:
28% falls20% motor vehicle accidents19% struck by objects or against objects11% violence reported incidents.Males are nearly twice as likely to sustain a TBI as are females.
To assist individuals of brain injury in identifying special needs and coordinating resources to increase independent living and community intregration.

We extend our invitation to you, your support system, and family in planning and achieving realistic and obtainable goals that will improve your quality of life and community independence.
We offer a Consumer Directed Program within the areas of:
Work Adjustment Training Life Skills AssistanceSocial Venues, Support Groups, & EducationIndependent Living SkillsOur goal is to assist the consumer, family, and caregivers to acheive the most independent life possible by connecting each individual with services and resources available in their local community.
CREDENTIALS:
MARC Workshop Inc. & MWS Brain Injury Services were awarded the CARF Three-Year Accreditation for Community Services Coordination valid through December 2011.

The Brain Injury Services Program is an independent division of MARC Workshop Inc.
The Workshop Was Opened...
April 1969: to three clients. Since its' inception the workshop has experienced substantial growth. Over four-hundred individuals have been served through sheltered employment.
In 2002: a 7,500 sq. ft. facility was opened to house the majority of the production work.
January 2004: a grant proposal was submitted to the Harvest Foundation of Martinsville and Henry County, seeking funds to work with individuals in the area who had sustained traumatic or aquired brain injury.
February 2004: the grant was approved. In March of the same year plans were underway to set up the new program.
July of 2004: The Open House for MWS Brain Injury Services was held in-house!
Learning to live with and prevent

Providing Consumer Directed: Case Management, specifically designated to assist families and indivduals in locating local resources.
Prevention & Education Tools: for the communities for which we serve.
Creating A Path to Increased Independence: by providing advocacy and navigation through complicated assistance programs.
Promoting growth in new resources: by recognizing deficencies for needed and vital essentials.

And all kinds of helper aids: Grippers/Reachers, Large digit phones, Pill organizers, Post-it Note pads, Timers/Reminders, Night lights, Mobility aids, Hygene assist items (unused), Eurgonomic tools and kitchen gadgets! Donated items will be given receipts.
